Founder Willy Gianopulos began planting our hilltop in 1988, joining the burgeoning Pinot Noir viticulture landscape in the Willamette. With the first commercial wines made in 1998, Freja Cellars has since then been a monopole winery dedicated to the pursuit of growing and producing handcrafted, artisanal Pinot Noir and Albariño wines of the highest quality made from our own estate vineyards. Now in our second generation, we grow Pinot Noir and Albariño on Laurelwood loess soil at high elevation in the Willamette Valley’s Chehalem Mountains and utilize low-intervention winemaking to allow our unique terroir to shine through. Growing fruit with the farm ecosystem as the focus and minimally manipulating that fruit in the winery yields complex and immanently age-worthy wines.
